My passion for Dance Photography is fuelled by my love and former training, combining the two art forms enables me to work with each dancer to create some inspiring images.
It’s all about timing and instinct to achieve a ‘successful’ shot. As a photographer you wait on tenterhooks in anticipation of the main action and it is a major advantage to know the arrangement of movements. As I taught dance for years, I have the advantage of knowing what movements to expect from various styles of dance. It’s not just that I have a head start on when to press ‘click’ and capture that important shot in live dance, I can feel what is coming and move along with the dancer in my head. I also know what points of the dance will be a highlight, when the dancer will be performing a particularly ‘pivotal’ movement, which I know will look dramatic and beautiful.
